Go Solo 2008

Theatre Compositions Driven by Actors' Curiosity

This year Go Solo has twenty new New Zealand compositions by third year actors from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School.

As usual this year’s Solos are hugely varied, from one thousand props to a bare naked stage, physical stylised theatre to hip-hop, stand-up comedy to an epic cataclysm.  Snippets the students are working on include: A 'high-class' sheep farmer who looses his farm to Lord of the Rings Tourism, a boozed up bride planning the perfect wedding night if only she could get her appliances to work, an apocalyptic crisis in a pet food factory in Miramar, a solo mum who shakes it like it's hot by night and something even hotter by day and a Vietnam vet on Anzac day.

Go Solo 2008 is directed by Jade Eriksen (Migrant Nation, Yatra, Penumbra, Arcane, After Democracy), Annie Ruth (Toi Whakaari Director) and 2007 acting graduate Sophie Roberts, with support from second year entertainment technology student Michael Blockley. There are 5 different groups of actors and every group promises a rich collision of individual perspectives and bold theatre making.
