Working Together
The most creative periods in history have been when conventional boundaries between disciplines and ways of thinking have become permeable or have dissolved altogether.
To promote greater creativity for our students and for the future of the industry Toi Whakaari is providing space for interaction between disciplines and viewpoints.
The purpose of this collaboration is not for different specialists to impose their own ways of working on each other, but instead to benefit from the stimulation of each other's expertise.
The work produced through the collaboration of courses and disciplines rises above expectation and sets a new level of achievement, creating its own climate of expectation and surprise.
Toi Whakaari believes that NZ Theatre must:
- Stimulate our senses - visual as well as emotional/intellectual
- Engage - audience involvement in the performance
- Challenge - our senses and preconceptions
- Expand - our view of the world as well as reflecting our attitude/response to nz culture
- Entertain - thrill, excite, amaze, elevate
To achieve these goals for NZ Theatre Toi Whakaari is:
- Exploring new theatre forms/structures through greater cross discipline collaboration and performance research
- Empowering students to form stronger collaborative relationships as performers, designers, managers and technicians
- Encouraging greater autonomy in our students
- Becoming a stronger focus for professional development in the industry
- Committing to the creation of a viable and robust NZ theatre as its central purpose
