Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to the Toi Whakaari Challenge – a national competition for students of Technology, Design, Fashion, Drama and Art. Open to all Aotearoa secondary students, Years 11 – 13, TWC Contestants are invited to imagine that they are working in the Art Department of a movie, for which they will imagine, design or make elements for a fictional world – a scenario set in a future Martian colony. Using the TWC brief, the competition requires the showing of work to create design (images, workbooks) or constructed objects (images, video) according to the competition categories. Winning entrants will be eligible for a pool of prizes and receive valuable creative feedback from industry professionals. The Competition is open for submissions anytime during terms two and three: 3 May – 1 October, 2021.

Manifest is Toi Whakaari’s annual event showcasing the work of Aotearoa’s newest makers and designers for stage and screen. The event celebrates the work of graduates from the Bachelor of Design (Stage and Screen) and the NZ Diploma of Scenic Construction and Properties.
This project is to bring to life the words, sounds and images of dynamic moments of protest, both current and historical. We are delving into the turbulent stories of protest from the diverse range of places of which the students themselves hail from. We travel around Aotoeroa, the Pacific, the Middle East and Asia.
Created by Toi Whakaari first year actors, they create their own original solo works, with total freedom over form, content and style. That’s 21 new pieces of work featuring 21 mavericks standing in their power. What’s not to love?
Toi Whakaari FWD Festival celebrates all expressions of digital creation, formed by the next generation of curious disruptors. The world is their oyster and the voices are theirs. Come listen, learn and revel in their creations.

This full scale Jacobean production event is the culmination of several months of hard graft from our aspiring production managers, design students and 2nd year actors.
This project holds a tradition of blasting audiences with originality and innovation. Book now!
